Resources listed below are ones I personally use and pay for (unless they’re free). The products, services and companies on this page have proven their worth to me over relationships that span years, in most cases. They’re here because I trust them.
Where I’ve established an affiliate relationship with a company, using the link I provide pays me a small commission when you buy.
WordPress.com (free to start, with limits)
StudioPress Sites – Managed WordPress hosting with StudioPress Genesis themes built in.
StudioPress – Fast, lightweight, flexible and modern themes for WordPress. Look great on any device. Excellent support/service for DIYers.
Automattic – Reliable, well-coded themes from the people who make WordPress. (free)
Wordfence – Monitors your site for malware and other threats, and notifies you via e-mail when plugin updates are needed. Even the free version is incredibly helpful. Note: Do not enable the Live Traffic feature. Almost no one needs it and it will tax your server and slow your site.
ShortPixel – Compresses images better than any plugin I’ve used, free or paid. Zero detectable loss of quality. Most affordable, easiest & best way to optimize an entire WordPress Media Library. (“freemium” WordPress plugin)
Website Form Builder
Seva (formerly known as ConvertKit) – Makes it simpler to handle more-complex e-mail marketing such as opt-in/lead magnets, welcome sequences, e-mail courses, segmented/tagged subscriber lists, and more.
MailChimp (free, with limits)
Social Media Sharing
Social Warfare – Nicely styled social sharing without the performance hit of popular plugins. Free is great for basic sharing options. Pro is cheap ($29) and adds features including excellent Pinterest capabilities.
Social Media Management
Missinglettr – Automatically creates year-long drip campaigns for your blog posts & shares them out to all of your connected social profiles. Huge time saver + traffic driver. 50% off the 1st three months when you use my link to sign up for any plan.
SmarterQueue – Helps schedule posts to most social media channels. Also helps find quality shareable content.
Tailwind – Powerful Pinterest and Instagram tools for bloggers and small businesses, including scheduling, analytics and monitoring. Another big time-saver & bringer of traffic. Use my link to try Tailwind for free + get a free month when you upgrade to a paid account.
Accounting & Invoicing
ZipBooks – Not true accounting software, but a decent offering to help you manage your business account and get paid. (free and paid plans)
Zoho (free and paid plans)
24Sessions – Video and audio meetings, plus the ability to screen share and record. Easy integrated scheduling that syncs with Google Calendar. Unlike Zoom, Hangouts or Skype, 24Sessions is simple enough for even the most tech-challenged people I work with. Only downside is no payment integration.
Meeting & Interview Transcription
Happy Scribe – Uses voice recognition to produce quick and inexpensive (currently .15/minute) transcripts from your uploaded audio. Offers a synced & timestamped interface to make editing a breeze. And yes – when a robot transcribes, there will be editing. Happy Scribe makes it easy.
[email protected] – Subscription service that works with any device & helps focus and productivity regardless of surroundings.
File Sync & Sharing
Dropbox – Creates a local folder on any device you like, then syncs it everywhere. Easy file sharing. Up to 2GB free. Use my link to sign up & receive an additional 500MB of space at no charge when you install Dropbox on your computer.
